ok well thats the best you can do i think,  people have to set their preference at their level, if they want to show all, there is not much you can do about it but maybe block them..

Oxwall should let we to be able to make newfeed to show only friends to friends like facebook.

How do you request plugin? or share your what plugin Oxwall should make.

Kou,

Newsfeed plugng has two widgets:
newsfeed widget on main page - displays site wide activity.
newsfeed widget on user's dashboard - displays only user related activity ( including your friend's activity).

 I see 2 solutions for this :

1. Move your "Dashboard" to the first place in Admin panel>> Pages&menus>>Pages&menus. This will make Dashboard landing page for your users.
Don't forget to remove "Newsfeed" widget from your main page by loging in as admin>>main page>>customize thie page.

This way users will have only one newsfeed and this will be the newsfeed that shows only user related activities on the site.

2. Customize the source code to display dashoard's newsfeed widget on main page.
Check this topic for further instructions http://www.oxwall.org/forum/topic/9552

Please note that all custom code modifications done within the source code will be erased if you update the software and you are doing them at your own risk.
Always keep track of what and where you are changing.

Surely it would be a lot more simple for the programmers and the user to make "every item" accessible by members or friends. This current setup sounds like:

"Drive on the left side to avoid accidents, but drive on the right sided to avoid accidents."

Does a simple task need to be so complicated?

All it takes is a simple check box under EVERY post "Public or friends". Geeez, how bloody complicated is that?

Make a suggestion on uservoice, please. http://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall

Shouldn't need to. A word that goes side by side with "programming" is "logic". Without either, rockets crash, people commit suicide and bombs blow up inside the plane.
