I was wondering because I have the custom smiles widget but it doesn't work with the editor this is fine however I was wondering if people can insert their own smileys to your product via ftp etc.

Its a bit more complicated than that Kenneth!I included the most common types but yes there is a way to add smileys if you are comfortable editing php?
