I have Paul's plugin installed too but unfortunately, the bots are still getting through :(

Paul, any suggestions?

Vicki, they probably will until i can add their IP address to the plugin database.

As soon as they try signing up again at my site, i'll have it.

Douglas, that IP didn't match any of the fake members on my site. I don't think we can count on IP banning. There seems to be too many.

Yeah it seems your right. I just got another signup from the spammer. Oh well at least needing admin approval they still cant spam up my site.

There's a camping forum thats been around a long time. Camping.com or something like that. They have required admin approval for years and have become a very popular forum thats spam free. I guess that's the answer.

Anyone still having this fake member/spam problem, install the latest version of the Anti-Spammer plugin by Paul Cuffe.

Make sure you turn on host referer checking in the settings, after installing it.

This will block those automated signups from sources outside your website.(bots)

I am soooooooo pleased to say that Paul's magnificent antispammer plugin has practically eliminated all the spam. Mind you, I don't have ALL the options turned on because I just want to be sure I am not blocking too much :) Even with some options off, I am down to only 1 spammer a day!

Paul -- you have done outstanding work. You have accomplished a small miracle for us Oxwall users and I thank you sooooooooo much.

Yeah, it is still a major problem for me. Even with Paul's plug in I still get 10 fake members a day. I'm going to wait for Oxwall's next release coming this month and I hope it helps the situation.

Hi Vicki,

I have six Oxwall Web sites running in full or partially.  Some of them are on a brand new sub-domain and these idiots started to join.  They likely (he or she) are using the same process and same emails.

But: All the sites that I have played with the questions asked to join (adding, modified, removing of field types) I have no more problems.  I will try to figure it out and come back to you...

One thing I know for sure he follows Oxwall sites and knows exactly where new ones are builted.

Regards,

Victor.

I think I tried the custom fields too but didn't make any difference.
It is extremely frustrating and I hope oxwall has fixed this in the next release Dec 19.

If you do find a way, please let me know, I would love to know how to combat these freaks.

Same problem.
Purusothaman Ramanujam

Quote from Paul Cuffe I do think the custom "field" does work,

Yeah. It does works for many as I have seen.
